Overview

The city was founded in 1540 by order of Francisco Pizarro. Since the colonial era is known as “The White City” this is due to the white ashlar color that prevails in its numerous temples and mansions. Colca comes from the words “Collaguas” and “Cabanas”, two ethnic groups that lived along the Colca River. This canyon has a depth of 4160 meters. Communities keep alive their ancestral customs.

The Cruz del Condor Viewpoint is a privileged spot to observe the depth of the canyon, vegetation and, above all, the flight of the condors, the most representative bird of the region. This viewpoint is a natural spectacle and an interesting experience for the visitor.
